Hill Cottage Reviews

It was our first time at Hill Cottage, it's a lovely property, very well equipped and clean. We would definitely recommend, and book again. However we are soon to become dog owners and sadly this property is not one that accepts dogs.
Robert
A lovely cottage perfect for our needs. Will definitely book again.
It's a spacious and comfortable, clean cottage an easy walk into the centre of Ambleside. The kitchen is quite well equipped. It's a pretty private feeling cottage too in a quiet side street so a good place to get away from things and enjoy the sound of owls nearby in the evening!. The only issue we had was running out of hot water on the first night but we found that if we staggered things like not showering immediately after washing up, the tank refilled and we managed fine.
Darren
I visit the lakes every year at least twice and have stayed in a huge range of different types of accommodation and many different cottages and I can honestly say I have never stayed in such a beautifully decorated, and stylish cottage in the lakes. Its such a perfect blend of traditional and cozy yet with high end decor and textiles Even the pans and crockery are quality. They do not scrimp on the comforts at all which Ive never seen in a rental! I actually couldnt believe it for the price. It was impeccably clean and warm whe we arrived They even leave you a welcome gift that is above and beyond the norm. It honestly has everything you need and more. Its a perfect distance from the town a 3 min walk We stayed 3 adults and 1 child very comfortably And actually stayed home more than we would normally would in a rental as it felt so homely and cooked played games and watched lots of movies as the TV had lots of choice. We will be back Thank you!
Bernadette
We arrived on 20th December to a lovely warm house, decorated wth a Xmas Tree & other festive decorations. The location was perfect for us, a 10min walk up the hill away from the main busy Ambleside. So quiet, what a treat! The weather for our week in the Lakes was amazing, bright blue skys & amazing light. We visited Blackwells, The Jetty Museum & Abbots Hall. And some lovely walks. We shall be back. Thankyou.
This is a lovely warm and comfortable cottage. We had a problem with the front porch door not locking but this was quickly resolved. We would definitely stay here again when we visit Ambleside again.
Jonathan
Very cosy cottage

Rosalie
The owners of Hill Cottage have put a great deal of care and attention into providing their guests with the ideal holiday home warm, welcoming, comfortable and very well equipped. It is conveniently located just above the village and also has a lovely sun terrace with superb views.
Best cottage, location and facilities that we have found over many years visiting the Lake District. Will book again next year for sure.

Excellent cottage and facilities, one of the best we have stayed in. No worries about returning again.

Really enjoyed our stay in Hill Cottage, very clean and comfortable. Contains everything for a real self catering holiday. We will certainly return.
Rosalie
Hill Cottage is perfectly located just above the village with lovely views and an excellent sun terrace. The cottage owners have put much thought into making their guests feel very comfortable and have an enjoyable stay right from the moment you go through the inviting scarlet front door!
Andrew
This was our second time staying at the property. It is in such a nice location. It is in a quiet spot but only a short walk to the center of Ambleside. You can also start walks right from your doorstep. The property has great bathrooms, comfortable beds and a great front patio where you can enjoy the mountain views. It simply has everything you need to enjoy your time in the Lakes.
Angharad
This is a great cottage well equipped and comfortable, in a really convenient location. Would definitely book again, availability depending.
Philip
The only reason it wasnt 5 stars across the board was that when we arrived, there was an overly strong smell of cleaning products, which wouldnt affect most people but my wife has allergies and her eyes are sensitive so she needed her anti histermine, as it affected her eyes. We opened windows and gave a good airing and where then fine. Just thought worth mentioning to you. Overall, a superb cottage, great facilities and very handy to walk into Ambleside.
Caroline
This is the third time we have stayed at Hill Cottage and very much hope to do again in the future. It was immaculate and all of the extra touches make it so homely and comfortable. It is very deserving of the 5 stars.
Louise
Hill cottage is a wonderful retreat, particularly for city dwellers and is amongst the best of the many cottages we have stayed at in the past. We had a most enjoyable week away and appreciated the use of the facilities this cottage offered which were a very good quality. For those who do not know the lakes well Ambleside is a very convenient place from which to visit the many attractions available and take long walks. The information about the cottage was generally accurate but I would advise those who are not particularly fit or elderly as I am the hill is indeed, very steep and would present a challenge to walk up, but not necessarily down. The heating system did present one or two challenges for us and having the focal point of the sitting room as a lovely fireplace it would have been nice to have had some sort of fire in it. Nevertheless I would recommend Hill Cottage for those looking for a home from home place to stay.
Robert Ian
Lovely to be back at Hill Cottage againimmaculately clean, comfortable, quirky, thoughtful and in a perfect location for visiting Ambleside and walking right from the door. We really appreciated the credit at Rattle Ghyll and can recommend the scones!
Lovely property. Really well furnished and equipped. Great sun terrace at the front. Would definitely book it again.
Second visit and just as good as the first. Clean, comfortable, good location and everything you need provided in abundance.
Jacqueline
The cottage is fantastic. It is comfortable, nicely furnished and decorated, well maintained, and well resourced, particularly the kitchen. We would have no hesitation in recommending it to others. A few minor improvements to suggest are that the hot water could do with being hotter. For example, when using the ensuite shower over the bath the temperature is not quite hot enough. The lightbulbs in the lounge diner ceiling and floor lights could do with replacing with warmwhite as the current white lights are too harsh, make the room feel 'uncosy' and can't be dimmed without flickering. The final suggestion is to consider removing some of the cushions from both the sofas and beds as there are too many to be comfortable. We piled them up on the spare bed for the week.
Fabulous place to stay. It had everything we needed as a family of 4. Central so not far to walk into Ambleside and parking space was a bonus. Would definitely return.
Malcolm
Very comfortable and well equipped house in an ideal location above Ambleside. The beds and furnishings were of a high standard and comfortable. The credit at the local deli was a nice surprise and better than any made up hamper, thank you!! From a maintenance point of view, the outer front red door is sticking and difficult to open and close. Also the downstairs loo flush sometimes sticks and continues to fill. These small things did not detract from a wonderful weekend away. We would definitely consider coming back again in the future.
Michelle
Fabulous cottage, good central location, close to the town centre and short walk to the lakeshore. The owners had taken the time to leave a welcome Xmas card and gifts of some delicious goodies which was really appreciated on our arrival. There were also some great Xmas decorations up to add to the Christmas feel. Very comfortable, cozy and homely cottage, spacious lounge with plenty of comfy seating, with a good dining space, and some books, dvds and games which came in useful with a week of rain. Nice little conservatory but far too cold to sit in at this time of year. Well equip kitchen, we brought allsorts to cook Xmas Dinner but it wasn't needed as the kitchen had everything you could need. Nice bedrooms, really comfortable beds and bonus having an ensuite, making plenty of bathrooms and toilets in the property, which is always handy. We stay in Ambleside every year and would definitely return to this cottage in the future.
I had a really wonderful stay in Hill Cottage. You immediately feel at home here. The location is perfect, just a short walk into town but still so quiet and peaceful you can hear the occasional owl at night. Its so easy to get the train from London and then a bus from Windermere the journey was seamless and so quick. No need to come with a car, especially because you can walk straight out onto the mountains from the cottage, or get a bus to Coniston or the Langdales. Hill Cottage is wonderfully warm and comfortable and the kitchen has everything you could possibly need. The beds are ridiculously comfortable with good quality linen, and the modern bathrooms are spotlessly clean with an amazing power shower and also a bath perfect after a day walking in the mountains. It is tastefully furnished and I loved the thoughtful design, especially the cows! Ambleside is such a great place to base yourself in the Lake District, with inspiring walks and lots of great pubs and restaurants, and I cant wait to visit Hill Cottage again its like homefromhome. Thank you for a fantastic stay.
Rosalie
Hill Cottage is a delightful home from home with much thought and attention given to the comfort of the guests. The cottage also has a lovely sun terrace with views overlooking the village.
This is our second stay at Hill Cottage and we will definitely be back. The cottage is really comfortable, nicely furnished, and well equipped. Despite the other guest reviews we find all the mattresses to be really comfortable Our only, very minor, issue was the drippy guttering above the bedroom window which kept us awake when it had rained which it did quite a lot of in the night but no surprises for the Lakes!. If you are a light sleeper and like to sleep with an open window you might want to pack some ear plugs Its a really lovely cottage and one of our favourite holiday stays.
Esther
This was our 2nd stay at Hill Cottage because we enjoyed ourselves so much the previous year. This stay we werent so well blessed with the weather but when you do have dry bright evenings, being able to sit on the front terrace with views over the Lakes is a fab way to end the day. Having parking outside the property is a big plus as Ambleside is only a short 5 min walk away. Its a great location to numerous walks of you didnt want to use the car. The credit gift for a local deli was a wonderful surprise so thank you very much to the owner for such a generous gift! The cottage has been done to a high standard & we would definitely love to return. Thank you for a wonderful stay
Trevor
Lovely cottage in a tranquil setting. Very well equipped with clear instructions for use of the facilities. Only slight gripe was that toilet roll and towel missing from downstairs toilet probably an oversight
