We have had a lovely stay at Cross Brow despite flooding in and around Ambleside which cleared as quickly as it came. Gorgeous rooms upstairs, lovely kitchen, loads of space. We would definately come back.. There are just a few small things I would mention as others did the chairs and sofa downstair are not esp comfortable you slide off them! I think undersheets are needed on the beds, the sheet constantly comes off the mattress, instructions on the light switches! And the heating set to come on and off am and pm it was very random! Also the bath taps and shelf in upstairs bathroom need tightening. However great comfortable house happy to stay again, well equipped kitchen, clean, spacious.

Cross Brow is a delightful cottage in a great location the log burner takes a long time to get going but is a lovely feature. The kitchen is very well equipped and the house is spacious and great for familyfriends sharing. Lots of storage for clothes and walking gear which is great. Parking is really good too! More soft lighting in the lounge would be nice and more comfortable cushions on the sofas, plus a small side table by the reading chair at the bottom of the stairs. Lovely place to stay
Carolyn
A lovely well equipped cottage, superb gardens and parking for three cars just a few minutes walk away from the centre of Ambleside. Some lovely walks from the house over to Troutbeck or to Grasmere and only a short drive to start point for Helvellyn, Blencathra etc.
Lesley
Beautiful roomy cottage close to many walks and Ambleside

The stay at Cross Brow was perfect. Very light and spacious, lovely, warm and cosy. We had fairly good weather so no need for a fire and we were able to sit in the beautiful, established gardens on more than one occasion. Very quiet, except for an occasional car and workman on a building quite close. Convenient to walk into Ambleside for a coffee and pastry or an evening meal. Lovely walks from the cottage, only used the car twice whilst there. Kitchen had everything we needed and more, beds very comfy and the showers baths were lovely. We would happily stay there again.
What an amazing cottage perfectly placed for bars shops restaurants walks etc mind the weather helped red hot every day 1724th May 2025. It was plenty big enough for more than 6 people the gardens well kept and manicured!!! Would we stay there again most certainly cant fault it in any way wonderfully clean tidy and many toilets bathrooms etc so no fighting over those facilities!!! Thanks for having us. Jan and Eric Sue and Tony
Needed a little TLC in places, on suite in main bedroom. Appreciate that its a light colour carpet upstairs but would a key to the top door be a good idea, from a safety point of view. Overall a really fantastic property and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in it, sun was out and we sat in the garden as a bonus
The property was in an excellent location, just a few minutes walk from the village centre and easy to travel to other villages in the Lakes. Lots of nice walks straight from the property without the need for a car. The house itself is spacious and comfortable with key facilities provided. We had a problem with the heating when we arrived but this was quickly sorted after we reported it. It would have been good to be able to use the outside door next to the bedrooms to bring the luggage in and out but there was no key available. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
I feel it lacked Christmas spirit as there was no tree or decorations and this ... I feel it lacked Christmas spirit as there was no tree or decorations and this was missed by us Other than that this house was perfect for us
Great property, so well located for walking into lovely Ambleside in a few minutes, but not too close to be affected by being in the thick of it. Spacious enough to easily accommodate three couples in comfort, with the bedrooms being roughly the same size, so no real fight over which one each couple had! The previous reviewer's criticism we read about the towels has clearly been addressed too, as they were lovely and fluffy...
Carolyn
This property is perfectly situated it feels secluded but is just a 5 minute walk from the cafes, restaurants and bars in Ambleside. Easy access to great walks from the doorstep or a short drive away. We did 5 different walks over the week we were there and loved them all. Accommodation was perfect for our needs a modern open plan lay out with everything you could need during your stay. I just wish it was mine.
We loved Cross Brow and we greatly enjoyed our stay. The house and gardens are immaculate. The property is very comfortable. Four bathrooms was a definite plus. We were a party of five adults, including both my parents who are in their nineties. There was no mention of the many steps down to the property from the parking place and they struggled with these. These steps should be mentioned in the property description.
The property was everything the brochure said it was with the most amazing garden
Joanna
Wow, what a gem of a place in beautiful Ambleside! Seriously the photos dont do it justice! We were totally blown away when we arrived and very happy we chose this place. The house and gardens are just beautiful, everything in the house is top quality and you can tell thats its well looked after! The facilities are excellent and the beds, well they are so comfy and we all slept so well! The fluffiest bathroom towels and nice little finishing touches throughout! Would we stay again, most definitely, I seriously cant recommend this place enough!
Fantastic location with it being such a short walk into the middle of Ambleside and Waterhead. Lovely garden. Great to have a bathroom for each room. The kitchen has a great selection of utensils etc for a week away. Lovely rooms and decorations adding to them. Nice to have access to a washing machine and drier as walkingexercising does produce dirty clothes that need washingdrying. Only thing to improve would be more than one toilet roll per bathroom for a weeks stay. Would stay again
Rachel
Stunning property, clean and comfortable. Great location and close to local amenities. Thank you
We have stayed at Crossbrow many times and stay each year, sadly since Lake lovers has changed to Sykes there is a marked decline. The towels and bed linen have gone from soft luxurious comfort to cheap rough industrial laundry type. This is the same for the cleaning, the bathrooms all smelt of cheap chemicals throughout. Crossbrow has the location and space but no longer has the comfort. From a customer perspective the change of company ownership has had a big impact on the quality of our stay and it feels such a shame for this property to be managed by a large national company where the customer experience is now not paramount it feels.
Loved this cottage, spacious, comfortable, beautiful garden, stones throw from the centre of Ambleside. Like home from home everything there that we needed to have a wonderful stay.
Christopher
Please thank the owner. We had a great time. It is a comfortable, clean , large cottage, and was ideal for ourselves and grown up children.
Absolutely lovely property, great location literally within walking distance of Ambleside centre. Beds were very comfy & showers were super powerful. Kitchen has all the required bits & bobs to make Cross Brow a home from home. We really enjoyed our stay here & would highly recommend to others.
It's the second time we have stayed at Cross Brow and we love it. So comfortable, clean and roomy for our needs with a lovely garden and rest areas. The showers are amazing! Also, the property is ideally placed in Ambleside. The only thing we wonder is if the property could do with the provision of a decent gas or charcoal bbq? There is one in the wall at top of garden but one in the area near the lower rest area would be ideal. One big thankyou to Lakelovers. We had to call as water was leaking through the ceiling downstairs when one of the showers was used. The maintenance team out the very next day to sort. Thankyou! We will most certainly like to stay at Cross Brow again.
Another lovely stay at Cross Brow. It is the perfect location for walking, very peaceful but close enough to town. The bedroom layout is ideal for couples with the ensuites. The house is well equipped and we really enjoyed the beautiful gardens in the good weather. Disappointing that there's still no welcome pack on arrival only LL property weve stayed in that doesn't given the premium price, but overall a great week.
Samantha
Great location. Parking for 23 cars. Quite a few steps down to the property if parking up top so be aware for those less mobile. The house though... just beautiful. Beautifully decorated and has everything you need for a perfect home from home holiday. 3 lovely double bedrooms, 2 with ensuite. Middle bedroom has a bathroom just across the hall. Separate shower room. Additional WC in the utility room downstairs. Washing machine, tumble drier also in the utility room, along with ironironing board. Mops, brooms and hoover. Also a clothes airer. Kitchen has everything you need, glasses, cups, plates, cutlery, pots, pans. The sofas are large and comfortable. Despite some negative comments re the table, we found it to be absolutely fine. There were table cloths and mats, coasters in the cupboard to dress the table, so it certainly didn't ruin our dining experience! The house was lovely and warm, we had the fire going when we were home, which was so warm and cozy. There was a small leak to one of the rads, but a call to Lakelovers and an engineer was there within half an hour to reapir it great service. In all, we had everything we needed for a wonderful Christmas stay and I can only say positive things about this property. The photos certainly don't do it justice, we were so surprised at how large and spacious it was. I would stay here again and would 100 recommend this property.
Caroline
Cross Brow is practically equipped, spacious and comfortable. Ideal for our needs. Private and secluded despite having near neighbours and in walking distance of Ambleside and all facilities you could need. We loved it! We were nervous because of a recent review but this beautiful stunning house adds to a short list of our favourite houses for a family visiting the lakes several times a year.
Louise
Best cottage we have stayed in , in the UK. Amazing views , great facilities, ideal location and we had to get staff to check on the hot water they were prompt and polite and really helpful. One of the best holidays we've had.
Stephen
The property was lovely & we had a great holiday. However the shower in the first bedroom on the left going down the corridor had inconsistent hot & cold water coming out no matter what the setting which meant diving out of the way when cold water came! Also living room was good but could do with a few cushions to make it more comfortable.
Lovely cottage in the perfect location with shops, restaurants and walks all on the doorstep. We enjoyed quite a few meals in the beautiful garden and really appreciated multiple places to sit outside to make the most of the sunshine. There are some minor maintenance things that need to be dealt with window fitting in ensuite bathroom to first bedroom on left as you come up the stairs, leaky shower hose on ensuite bath, broken zip on sofa cushion so it keeps falling down, shower head in shower room needs adjusting so that it stays in place once water turned on but none of these took away from our enjoyment. Thank you for a lovely week.
Nathaniel
Loved the cottage and its a great location. Very disappointed that its the first Lakelovers Cottage we have stayed at that didn't have a welcome pack of any sort, not even a pint of milk!!
Perfect accommodation & location , outdoor space a bonus . Slight problem with hot water , but rectified as soon as the owner was informed ! Would love to revisit as long as theres no drastic price increase !
Christine
Cross Brow was a lovely clean and very well equipped property. Having a Large Smart TV in the Lounge would have made our stay even better. The garden was lovely but there was a lot of steps which could be a problem if like us you have poor mobility.
Wonderful cottage everything you need great location very clean and a beautiful garden that would be great in the summer months. ...there is a couple of things that are only suggestion bigger towels for the bathrooms and I would take the bathroom fans off a timer and make come on with the light switch ..
Jarrod
Lovely cottage, repeat visit and would stay again. Close to the centre and very well appointed. Great to have a log burner. Strangely, there were no teaspoons!!! There were last December so not sure why they were missing this time. Plenty of other crockery, glassware and cutlery, in fact pretty much everything else we could want in a property. The bathrooms are quite cold, especially the ensuite shower room, kept the main bathroom warm by leaving the door open to the corridor upstairs which was always warm. We had lovely large bath sheets last December but this year they were small, not a major issue but couldnt wrap ourselves in them at all. Not major issues but just stopped it being 5 stars.
Daniel Robert
A lovely cottage close to all you could want in Ambleside. Loved the garden even in November. What a great kitchen invites you to want to cook!
Loved the property and bonus was a bbq even though we were told it didnt have one. Only comment Id like to make is when we looked to rebook for next year same week in July the price has gone up by just under 1000 . I think this is an enormous price increase and unfortunately has put us off rebooking again.
