Nursery Cottage Reviews

Phillip
Really enjoyed our stay at this well equipped cottage. Our only issue was the low level of lighting in the kitchen.
Christine
We spent a lovely week at Nursery Cottage. Everyone slept really well in very comfortable beds. The kitchen was one of the best equipped weve ever had on holiday. Great location for touring around a lovely area. We had a ride on a steam train, visited castles and beautiful gardens, got up close to Shire horses on a farm and had fish and chips at the seaside. I would recommend this cottage for your next break
Stirling
Three generations staying we had a great week. Quiet, great outdoor space that was safe for dogs and children.

A WONDERFUL HOUSE IN A STUNNING LOCATION. WE HOPE TO RETURN.
Rachel
Beautiful property in a beautiful location. Near to all amenities and within easy driving distance of all beauty spots and Historical locations. Caretakers responded immediately to some initial minor issues and resolved for us. Very friendly and helpful. Would defintely go back.
Andrew
Great place for a family getaway. In the beautiful countryside, but only 10 minutes from Warkworth and a little more to Alnwick and Bamburgh so perfect for us. The house is very wellequipped and having 3 double beds, as well as a kids bedroom, was ideal for us. Great communication from the hosts, at the time of booking and during the stay. Really couldnt have asked for any more.
Lovely place so quiet we had great time in nursery cottage we enjoyed sitting out looking at beautiful countryside would recommend it to anyone wanting quiet getaway but close to so many places . Beaches around area are amazing.
Excellent cottage for our family holiday. Beautiful setting and everyone was comfortable.
Louise
Fabulous place to stay. Everything you need. Furnishings are great. Peaceful & quiet, with plenty of space outside too.
Beautiful cottage in a serene and peaceful setting but within easy access of all the wonderful Northumberland attractions, including Alnwick, Warkworth, Amble and Seahouses. The cottage is spacious, comfortable, clean and very well equipped. Thoroughly recommended!
Robert
The pictures dont do this cottage justice. It is in a very picturesque rural location with fantastic views over the countryside. In addition to the courtyard there is access to a large grassy area. The internal area is spacious and the quirky Lshaped layout works well, providing separate bedrooms and bathrooms for two family groups. The furniture and decorations are of high quality, the kitchen is well equipped. Highly recommended!
Russell
Very enjoyable we felt quite at home, just what we needed given the weather that week. One suggestion, more shelving hooks in the bathrooms please.
Worked well for a family get together with plenty of space for everyone, though kitchen rather cramped for eating together. Ali and John who manage the cottage were very helpful and friendly.
Isabel
We had a really lovely week at Nursery cottage the location for us was perfect, situated down quiet country lanes, but only 15 minutes drive from town. The cottage itself is very comfortable, bright, airy and clean but as others have said it could do with a few extras that would make all the difference shelves in the bathroom above the sink and a dressing table and mirror in the bedrooms as there was no where to put anything whilst doing hairmakeup apart from in the sink which is not ideal. The kitchen is small and the table was just big enough for us but we only had 5 staying 3 adults and 2 large teens it definitely would not seat 8 people 6 maximum. We absolutely loved the area plenty of walking on nearly empty beaches and country lanes and would certainly come back to stay again.

We loved Nusery cottage and Northumberland. I have rented several Sykes cottages and been very happy with them. However , my family and I strongly object to not being able to enter the buildings until 4.0pm and in particular having to leave 9.0am. We like to leave the accommodation in a clean and tidy state. But of course this takes time and it's not a good end to a holiday having to get up so early to do this, particularly if is the drive home takes several hours. The cost of rental is surely enough for you,Sykes, to plan your cleaning arrangements so that your customers aren't penalised. I would like some feedback from yourselves on this matter.
Have done a few holiday lets previously and been left lol roll bin bags washing tablets etc. It would have been nice to have had more than 1 bin bag and toilet roll per room considering the cost paid. Also previous lets have left a complementary cream tea or something as a gesture which was always a nice touch. But good communication with host and lovely cottage in fab location, some more personal touches would have been welcomed.
We had a lovely stay at Nursery Cottage. The property is comfortable, well equipped and in a good location for visiting the many visitor attractions in the local area. The view from the garden is beautiful and very peaceful. We enjoyed sitting outdoors every evening and were able to have a couple of bbqs.
Overall Nursery Cottage was perfect. Fortunately there is an easier place to pack near the back of the cottage, because when you have have a car full of things it would be more than a pain to have to use the allocated parking spaces. Also my sister dose not walk so well and it would not have been easy. Basically its furnished to a good quality, but crazy things like in the showers no where to put anything have to juggle with soap, shampoo, Conditioner etc, need a wire basket, simple to resolve. Likewise near the basins no shelf if you had 8 people staying l dont know how they would manage. In one of main bedrooms yes a wardrobe with draws under but no where to put anything, suggest another set draws to enable to put things on top. The TV in lounge is so slow l think its on its way out. The shelf in top oven is not safe in fact dangerous needs new proper fitting shelf. The fridge is far too small, impossible with 8 people staying, struggled with 2. Plenty room in entrance hall to put a fridgefreezer. Yes kitchen very small again really not good for so many guests. We have stayed over the years in many rented properties we really enjoyed the size and space which why l booked it and the views are amazing and ideal for a dog so easy to walk down the track. Lastly the main bedroom with walk in shower the floor looks extremely dirty we spoke with Ali & John the Mangers that look after the cottages and they were both very nice and extremely helpful and we pointed all this items out to them and are hopeful going to resolve these issues. I should add we did have an enjoyable stay, but just a little more attention would not come a miss.
Had a great time at Nursery Cottage, lots of room except in the kitchen
The family enjoyed the the property 7 of in the kitchen was very cosy but plenty of room otherwise. Beds were very comfortable although one mattress didnt fit bed. There was cobwebs around the centre lights in the living room and the grill tray had not been cleaned and used foil not discarded. Grill trays didnt fit couldnt raise. A strong smell from en suite which served two bedrooms. It was nice and warm. Lovely area and would visit again. Marion Armstrong

WAS NOT FOR 8 POOR LIGHTING IN KITCHEN LIGHT ABOVE OVERN NOT WORK & THREE LIGHT BULBS OUT KITCHEN TABLE NOT FOR 8
A comfortable cottage that was immaculately clean. It is situated some distance from Amble so ideal if you want to get away from it all. The resident house manager was extremely helpful. There is lots to see in the area and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Owners very friendly and live in the cluster of properties so are on hand if needed. The cottage is very well appointed with lovely views, the property is approximately 4 miles from Amble,The cottage is very well appointed with lovely views it is located along approx 3 miles of narrow unlit country roads Amble is a lovely small town with all you need. Remember to bring essentials such as milk as there isn't a welcome pack, eg, milk etc.
Lovely stay accommodated the 6 of us plus 2 little ones. With it all being on one level it made us all feel connected. Kitchen a bit small for everyone to get round, but I think we knew that it might be from previous reviews. Despite the instructions we all struggled to find it initially but were guided in effectively! Love Northumberland and enjoyed plenty of fresh fish and seafood. The dog enjoyed his stay too. Thank you
Lesley
The cottage was very clean, comfortable and in a lovely location. We were made to feel very welcome by Ali and John and would happily recommend this cottage for a relaxing family holiday.
Beautiful cottage in lovely area. Super lounge and bedrooms BUT the kitchen is a BIG let down the bathroom is nearly as big and not suitable for modern living. Impossible to get 8 people round the table so when it was raining 2 people had to eat standing up. You can't access oven, sink, dishwasher or bin when people are sitting down. Tiny under worktop fridge so had to shop most days must have been a nightmare in the heatwave. Washer drier took forever after all 8 of us got soaked to the skin! A suggestion If the dining table was put in the large hall the kitchen could be redesigned to include a large fridge, separate washer and drier and a range cooker. With a little breakfast bar the person cooking wouldn't feel isolated. At the present time most families can't afford to eat out everyday so use the kitchen more than they would have done. The other thing that could do with replacing is the patio furniture. To sit altogether is important to lots of family groups and at present it's a maximum of 6 on one table with the remaining 2 on the other.
My husband is not able bodied, so we booked this one storey cottage for a 3 generation family get together for my special birthday. You should be aware however that the parking spaces are quite a long walk from the property itself. Fortunately, when she saw my husband struggling, Ali kindly arranged for a special parking space for us near to a door. The information also doesnt make you aware that your cottage is part of a complex of other cottages. It also says it is on the outskirts of Amble but my satnav gave a distance of 6 miles when I parked in Amble, back to the cottage! It really is in the middle of nowhere between the A1 and the sea. The property itself was clean and comfortable and the grandsons loved the space outside, which was also very peaceful and lovely to sit on the sunny patio. Be aware the bedroom with a wet room is more of a Jack and Jill facility to share with the neighbouring room and I personally felt a lack of shelves in there to put any toiletries. No chest or dressing table either in the bedroom. I would prefer that to a giant telly! Kitchen diner small as others have mentioned but a nice property for our needs. Just make sure you have good satnav to find it!!

A beautiful cottage with lots of room, nice and bright. It has a wonderful garden and very peaceful.

Nursery cottage is in a truly idyllic and peaceful location. There were 6 of us over 3 generations staying with our dogs and we found the bedrooms with en suite to two of them very comfortable and well furnished. The living room was really cosy. Outside there was plenty of space to relax and enjoy the views of countryside and hear the birdlife. We discovered footpaths and bridleways which was great for walking the dogs. It is in a great location to access beaches, Alnwick, Alnmouth, Warkworth and Amble. We would love to return some time.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, relaxing. Ail the manager was so helpful. Loved the cottage but was a bit tight for space in the kitchen. Certainly would be tight for 8 people. Handy for the whole area, really enjoyed our stay.
Beautiful and peaceful location and a perfect base to explore Northumberland. The place felt very cosy and was nicely decorated. We particularly loved that the place was perfect for two couples as each had their own wing either side of the lounge which gave more privacy. The lounge was a great place to chill and look out across the open field views. The patio was also wonderful for alfresco breakfasts in the sunshine. The only minor niggles we had were in terms of deep cleaning. Overall the place was to a clean standard but we had to clean the previous guests hair from the shower plughole when it wouldn't drain away. Also due to the high ceilings and lots of beams there were quite a few cobwebs. The fridge could have done with more of a deep clean and there was quite a lot of dust under the beds. Whilst this may seem a bit picky, we thought the place could have just had that little extra bit of attention, particularly in times of Covid. The kitchen is indeed quite small but was fine for 4 adults, although the layout is a bit problematic as you can't have the kitchen door open and get to the fridge. We ended up taking our breakfast in to the lounge or outside on the patio to eat if there was more than two of us in the kitchen. If you have any more than 4 people it would be a bit of a squeeze around the kitchen table. However, in spite of the above, we had a wonderful and relaxing stay and when the extractor fan in the bathroom stopped working it was fixed within a few hours. The people that look after the property liver a few doors away and were very helpful and friendly. We loved our stay.
We had the most perfect stay at Nursery Cottage. A beautiful spacious cottage with everything you could need, set in lovely surroundings not too far from Warkworth and Amble. The garden was fully enclosed which was great for the dog and meant I didnt have to worry. The weather was lovely even for March so got to enjoy sitting out in the garden, the garden furniture was modern and high quality. We could not fault any aspect of our stay and hope to return.
This was listed as being on the outskirts of Amble. It is definitely not. It is accessed along a maze of extremely narrow lanes, the last of which are very potholed. Parking is at a distance from the cottage and its accessed via a narrow path. The cottage itself is beautiful, comfortable and well appointed but the kitchen is rather small.
Claire
Lovely large cottage. Other reviewers have said that the kitchen is small. As there was only 3 of us this did not bother us. Very clean and wonderfully welcoming people.
Royston
In easy reach of everything we wanted to see. The manager was most helpful
Andrew
